Rudisha, Lagat scoop 2010 Kenya Sports Personality Awards

World 800m record holder David Lekuta Rudisha and Nancy Jebet Lagat were crowned the 2010 Safaricom Kenya Male and Female Sports Personality of the Year.
Former Nigeria Super Eagles defender Taribo West was Chief Guest of Honour at the awards function in Nairobi Kenya on Saturday. The individual honours were dominated by track and field athletes.
Rudisha twice broke the 800m world records, besides winning the two lap event at the Africa Championships, IAAF/VTB Continental Cup, and was unbeaten during the IAAF Samsung Diamond League. He is also the IAAF World Male Athlete of the Year.
Africa and Commonwealth Games 3000m steeplechase champion Richard Maatelong was runner up. While Commonwealth Games 400m champion Mark Mutai was third.
Meanwhile Lagat stood out in the women’s category on account of her unprecedented double Commonwealth Games gold medal in 1500m and 800m. Besides her 1500m gold medal at the Africa Championships, Lagat scooped 1500m silver medals at the IAAF World Indoor Championships and the IAAF/VTB Bank Inter Continental Cup. Lagat won the 1500m title in the Samsung Diamond League.
Africa, Commonwealth and IAAF/VTB Bank Inter Continental Cup 5000m champion Vivian Cheruiyot was runner up, while Milcah Chemos Cheiywa the Africa and Commonwealth Games 3000m steeplechase champion was third.
